Although still a minority sport in Colombia, it seems that recent developments in the sport have thrust it into the national limelight. Thai Castle understands that a new pro competition will be launched in the South American country, with organisers already having signed a series of big name players.
“We’re excited to share that Senors Jesse Bromwich, Kevin Proctor and Ali Williams are our marquee signings for the first season of the CPL” said CEO Pablo Escobar Jr. “While rugby isn’t a big deal here just yet, we’re confident that having these amazing athletes around will be very beneficial to the local economy.”
Confirmed teams for the CPL include the Bogata Snowmen, Cartagena Scarfaces and Medellin Bathroom Stalls. Former All Black Justin Marshall has offered his new energy drink Boomfa as naming rights sponsor, as it is understood he sources the key ingredient for the drink from ‘some guys I know in Colombia’.
When asked about what the players will be getting paid, Escobar Jr told us “well that’s something we’ll work out on a gram by gram, sorry I mean month by month basis.”
